Open Call für Artist zum UWE-Festival 2025
Pfingsten 2025 ist es wieder soweit, das UWE-Festival findet wieder statt. In seiner dritten Auflage zum Kulturhauptstadtjahr wird es seinen Besuchern wieder eine einzigartige Mischung Makerangeboten und internationaler Urban Art präsentieren. In den letzten beiden Jahren haben schon ca. 30 Artist aus den Bereichen Urban Art / Streetart, Installation und Bildhauerei Teile des Gebäudes bespielt. Ein kurzer Eindruck davon ist hier zu finden.
Für 2025 suchen wir noch Artist, die bereit sind, sich mit ihrer Arbeit auf ein einmaliges Gebäude einzulassen, seine Architektur und Geschichte wahrzunehmen und die entspannte Atmosphäre des ländlichen Raums zu geniessen.
Das ehemalige Umspannwerk Etzdorf ist ein Ort der Geschichte und einer quicklebendigen Gegenwart. 1910 errichtet, war es eines der ersten Umspannwerke in Mittelsachsen und bis 2013 in Betrieb. Das UW-Etzdorf ist ein architektonisches Kunstwerk aus den Anfängen der Elektrifizierung, das immer noch eine gewaltige Menge Energie transferiert. Ein Eindruck des Gebäudes von Anfang 2024 ist hier zu finden.
Das UWE besteht aus zahlreiche Flächen, Räumen und Körpern, welche danach schreien mit zeitgenössischer Kunst bespielt und somit als Gesamtkunstwerk erlebbar gemacht zu werden. Auch ist UWE ein ständig wachsendes Projekt das städtisch, urban geprägte Kunst in den lokalen, ländlichen Raum bringt, den künstlerischen Austausch fördert und Prozesse der Begegnung anstößt.
Wir suchen Artist aus die sich über Malerei, Graffiti, Stencils, Paste-ups, Illustrationen, Installation, Bildhauerei und Multimediakunst mit den Räumen des UWE auseinandersetzen. Thematisch gibt es dabei keine Vorgabe unsererseits, es ist für uns nur wichtig, das Arbeiten direkt im Raum stattfinden bzw. diesen als Grundlage benutzen.

Wann gehts los?
Für 2025 haben wir eine Kreativphase vom 19.5 bis zum 1.6.25 eingeplant.
Wer steht hinter UWE?
Träger des Projekts ist der Europäische Kunstverein e.V.. Hinter diesem sperrigen Namen steht aber vor allem das Künstlernetzwerk um Rebel Art aus Chemnitz. Wir sind Künstler die aus unterschiedlichsten Hintergründen von Streetart bis zur Freien Kunst kommen und jahrelange Erfahrungen auf Festivals wie z.B. der ibug und der Rubug sammeln konnten.
Warum gibt es UWE?
Wir möchten einen Freiraum für künstlerische und soziale Interaktion im ländlichen Raum schaffen und mit den Mitteln der Kunst auf Dauer erlebbar machen. Zum Kulturhauptstadtjahr 2025 und darüber hinaus wollen wir das UW-Etzdorf gemeinsam zum erlebbaren Gesamtkunstwerk machen und als Begegnungsstätte und Ort der Innovation, Demokratie und Gemeinschaft im ländlichen Raum dauerhaft etablieren.
Was bieten wir?
Wir bieten ein beeindruckendes Gebäude mit einer spannenden Geschichte und mit unterschiedlichst proportionierten Räumen, die auf künstlerische Bespielung warten. Dazu gibt es eine total entspannte Atmosphäre, mitten auf dem Land mit viel viel beruhigender Natur. Zum UWE-Festival vom 7.-8.Juni 25 haben wir ein ansprechendes Festivalprogramm vorbereitet. Material und Unterbringung gehört natürlich auch dazu. Mit Deinem Werk im UW-Etzdorf wirst Du im Rahmen des Kulturhauptstadt Jahres 2025 aber auch darüber hinaus Teil einer Dauerausstellung und Teil der zukünftigen Geschichte Urbaner Kunst im ländlichen Raum.
Was erwarten wir?
Wie die Künstler im UW-Etzdorf agieren, ist ihnen vollkommen selbst überlassen. Wir nehmen auf den Inhalt der Arbeiten keinen Einfluss. Die Künstler haben aber immer die Gelegenheit, Geschichte und Architektur des Ortes, wie auch seine
Wie erfolgt die Versorgung Ort?
Wir haben ausgebaute Schlafmöglichkeiten in verschiedenen Räumen im Gebäude selbst. Sanitäre Anlagen und eine Küche sind vorhanden und auch für tägliche Mahlzeiten wird gesorgt.
Woher kommt das Material?
Wir versuchen, für das benötigte Material vor Ort aufzukommen bzw. bestellen dieses auf Anfrage. Dafür müssen wir rechtzeitig wissen, was für die Umsetzung der Arbeit benötigt wird. Zudem gibt es Fundmaterialien ( Transformatoren, technische Elemente aus Metall ) aus dem Gebäudebestand und anderes auch großformatiges Material, das künstlerisch verwendbar ist. Technisches Equipment wie Werkzeuge und Maschinen können wir im begrenztem Rahmen zur Verfügung stellen, sind aber dabei aber auch auf die Mithilfe der Künstler angewiesen.
Gibt es Honorare?
Honorare würden momentan unsere Möglichkeiten sprengen. Auch weil wir ein Non-Profit-Projekt sind, können wir dir keine Gage zahlen. Reisekosten werden aber je nach Entfernung anteilig übernommen.
Open Call for Artist UWE-Festival 2025
At june 2025, the UWE Festival will take place once again. In its third edition for the Capital of Culture year, it will once again present its visitors with a unique mix of maker offers and international urban art. In the last two years, around 30 artists from the fields of urban art/street art, installation and sculpture have already performed in parts of the building. A brief impression can be found here.
For 2025, we are still looking for artists who are willing to engage with a unique building with their work, perceive its architecture and history and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the rural space.
The former Etzdorf substation is a place of history and a lively present. Built in 1910, it was one of the first substations in Central Saxony and was in operation until 2013. The Etzdorf substation is an architectural work of art from the early days of electrification that still transfers a huge amount of energy. The UWE consists of numerous surfaces, spaces and bodies that are crying out to be filled with contemporary art and thus to be experienced as a total work of art. UWE is also a constantly growing project that brings urban, urban-influenced art into the local, rural area, promotes artistic exchange and initiates processes of exchange.
We are looking for artists who will engage with the UWE spaces through painting, graffiti, stencils, paste-ups, illustrations, installations, sculpture and multimedia art. There are no thematic specifications on our part, it is only important to us that the works take place directly in the space or use it as a basis.

When does it start?
For 2025, we have planned a creative phase from May 19 to June 1, 2025.
Who is behind UWE?
The project is supported by the Europäische Kunstverein e.V.. Behind this unwieldy name, however, is above all the artist network around Rebel Art from Chemnitz. We are artists who come from a wide range of backgrounds, from street art to free art, and have years of experience at festivals such as ibug and Rubug.
Why does UWE exist?
We want to create a free space for artistic and social interaction in rural areas and make it a permanent experience through the means of art. For the Capital of Culture year 2025 and beyond, we want to turn the UW-Etzdorf together into a total work of art that can be experienced and permanently establish it as a meeting place and a place of innovation, democracy and community in rural areas.
What do we offer?
We offer an impressive building with an exciting history and differently proportioned rooms that are waiting to be used for artistic purposes. In addition, there is a totally relaxed atmosphere in the middle of the countryside with lots of calming nature. We have prepared an attractive festival program for the UWE Festival on 7-8 June 25. Material and accommodation are of course also included. With your work at UW-Etzdorf, you will become part of a permanent exhibition and part of the future history of urban art as part of the Capital of Culture Year 2025 and beyond.
What do we expect?
How the artists work at UW-Etzdorf is entirely up to them. We have no influence on the content of the works. However, the artists always have the opportunity to explore the history and architecture of the site, as well as its surroundings.
How is the location supplied?
We have sleeping facilities in various rooms in the building itself. Sanitary facilities and a kitchen are available and daily meals are also provided.
Where do the materials come from?
We try to source the materials we need locally or order them on request. To do this, we need to know in good time what is needed to carry out the work. There are also found materials (transformers, technical metal elements) from the building stock and other large-format materials that can be used artistically. We can provide technical equipment such as tools and machines to a limited extent, but we are also dependent on the artists' help.
Are there fees?
Fees are beyond our means at the moment. Also because we are a non-profit project, we cannot pay you a fee. However, travel expenses will be covered on a pro rata basis depending on the distance.
